Mary K. (Kate) Garrison

Mary K. “ Kate” Garrison, 86, an area resident most of her life, died, following an illness, at 7:40 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, 222 Parkview St., Plymouth. Kate was born in Warsaw, Ind., on March 4, 1915. She was the daughter of Chloie and Richard Bonnell. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Plymouth, with the class of 1932. On November 25, 1933, in Etna Green, Ind., Kate and Jesse H. Garrison were married. Jesse died on August 9, 1997. Kate worked at the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant during World War II, after which she and her husband ran the Garrison Home Store in Donaldson for over 20 years. After leaving the store she devoted her time to being a homemaker and an avid collector of antiques. She also raised and collected African violets. She enjoyed watching wrestling and other sports on television. Kate is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip L. and Kay Garrison, Plymouth. A granddaughter, Melinda Garrison, Plymouth, and a grandson, Stephen and Lara Garrison, Orlando, Fla., survive as well, together with two great-grandsons, Brandon Moyer and Kalem Linville, both of Plymouth. Betty and Ed Oaks, a sister living in Apopka, Fla., and James and Joey Bonnell, a brother in California, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Kate was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, and a granddaughter, Kerri Garrison. Richard Bonnell, a brother, and Doris Bonnell, a sister, have also died. Visitation with the family will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in the New Oakhill Cemetery Chapel, Plymouth, Ind. Funeral services in the Chapel will be officiated by the Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church, at 1 p.m., following visitation. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in Kate’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
