Mary Louise Green

February 15, 1933 — October 2, 2000

Mary Louise Green, 67, 805 Bailey St., a Plymouth resident for 15 years coming from Calif., died, following an illness, in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Center, on Monday, October 2, 2000, at 10:20 p.m.

Mary was born on February 15, 1933, in Salina, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Stanford Lavere and Louise Alma Percival Grey.

She received her Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) certificate from Armijo High School in Fairfield, Calif., and years later, her G.E.D. while working as a CNA at Pilgrim Manor in Plymouth.

On Oct. 11, 1948, in Salina, Mary and Robert Wayne Green, Sr. were married.  She had met her future husband at her parent’s farm in Salina.  Bob was a young airman stationed at Schilling Air Force Base.  He and his friends were visiting the farm when a 14-year-old Mary rode up on her horse.  She may have only intended to satisfy her curiosity about the handsome young man, but her horse had other ideas.  She, literally, tumbled head over heels off her horse and was deposited at Bob’s feet.  They were married a few short weeks later.

Mary was a dutiful Air Force wife for 15 years.  Bob served at duty stations across the United States and Mary was with him all the way.  Their children’s birth certificates tell the story of their travels from Kansas to Mississippi, to Texas, to Washington and finally to California.

Bob was honorably discharged from the Air Force and entered the ranks of the civil service.

They moved to Plymouth in 1985 in order to care for Bob’s aging mother.

Mary worked at Pilgrim Manor as a CNA.  She also worked at the Catherine Kasper Home and later finished her career at Pilgrim Manor.  When it came time for her to receive the same tender care she gave to her patients, she chose to return to Pilgrim Manor and all of her friends there.

She loved to sew and to fish.  She collected ceramic birds and bells and enjoyed bird watching.

Mary was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served alternately as a librarian, Sunday School teacher, youth teacher and a homemaking teacher in the Women’s Relief Society

Surviving her death are her husband, three daughters and four sons.  They are: Kathileen Marie and David Fountinelle, Riverdale, Calif., Janet Ann and Gary Whitehead, Clovis, Calif. and Aleta Suzean and Richard Meadows of Orem, Utah.  Her sons are: Robert Wayne and Deborah Green, Jr., Newport News, Va., Donald Lee and Judy Green, Taylorsville, Utah, James Allen and Janet E. Green and Larry Richard Green, all of Plymouth, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
