Max F. DeBow

July 25, 1920 - July 11, 2006
In Memorial

Max Franklin DeBow, a resident of Plymouth since moving here from California in 1973, died, following an illness, at 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton.
Max died 14 days shy of his 86th birthday, having been born in Nappanee, Indiana on July 25, 1920. He was the son of Orville Jay and Joy Mary Franklin DeBow. He graduated from Nappanee high school with the class of 1939.
On October 30, 1976, Max and Shirley Martin were married. Although later divorced, Shirley and Max’s daughters remained close and were his caregivers when he became ill.
Max had been a shipping clerk at the American Can Company in San Francisco, California, for thirty years. After his retirement he moved to Plymouth, where he worked at J.C. Penney for 10 years stocking inventory and doing pick-ups. After that, he worked at Sears & Roebuck & Company for two years.
An avid cat lover, Max almost always had one for a pet. He enjoyed watching television, especially the News and Sports. Max loved to travel in his V.W. Bug, visiting most of the Continental United States.
He is survived by two daughters: Dawn DeBow and Kimberley and Javier Mendez and their daughter Joanna Mendez, all of Plymouth.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Frances DeBow and Kate Sevinson, a brother, Robert DeBow and a granddaughter, Hallie DeBow.
Friends are invited to visit with the family and share memories of their times with Max on Friday, July 14, 2006, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Max will be held at noon on that day in the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, Indiana.
Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee, Indiana.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Marshall County Humane Society.
