Maxine Lawson

June 3, 1929 - May 20, 2022

Maxine Lawson, 92, peacefully passed away with her family by her side at 12:25 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Catherine Kasper Life Center, Donaldson, where she resided the last 7 ½ years. Maxine has been a resident of Plymouth since 2007, coming from Xenia, Ohio.

Maxine was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on June 3, 1929, to Earl H. and Audra L. (Quickle) Zink. She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1947, where she reveled in being a band majorette and developing lifelong friendships with her classmates. She was even given a photo opportunity with Roy Rogers.

On April 22, 1951, Maxine married John R. Lawson at the Church of Christ in Hillsboro. They would welcome a daughter, Katherine, and make Xenia, Ohio their home for 48 years.

A devoted mother and wife, Maxine spent her early years raising Kathy and running the household. When Kathy was in school, she worked for the Xenia School System as a cafeteria cashier for about 10 years. She would also volunteer at the Greene Memorial Hospital for 35 years in the gift shop.

She was a faithful member for 48 years of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ohio and First United Methodist Church in Plymouth. Maxine enjoyed 70+ years of singing in choirs and served on numerous committees at church as well as becoming the first female Elder Session Member in her church in Xenia, Ohio.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Kathy of Plymouth; a granddaughter, Holly K. Cessna of Pittsburgh, PA., and her children: Riley J. and Ian J. Cessna; a grandson, John L. and Princessa Mills, Plymouth, and their children: Haley C. (Carter Nicolini), John S., Tolman A., Collin R., and Seth D. Mills.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years in 2012, John, her parents, her son-in-law, John A. Mills, and her brother Herschel Zink.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor David Hogsett officiating.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, in the Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, OH.

    My sincerest sympathies to the Mills and Cessna families.
    Maxine was an amazing and loving human being!! I will mis her so much!!! It is just so difficult to imagine that we have reached an age where we are losing these important people from our lives!! Love you all very much!!!

    Your mom helped me count the collection at Memorial Church for several years. She was a wonderful woman. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
