Melanie S. Lyon

April 19, 1945 - March 27, 2016

Melanie S. Lyon, 70, passed away from respiratory failure on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 as her family surrounded her in the Kindred Hospital of Northern Indiana in Mishawaka.
Melanie was born on April 19, 1945 to John Harrison and Ines Lavaughn (Clegg) Canfield. She graduated from Madison Consolidated High School with the class of 1963.
On May 23, 1965, Melanie became the bride of Donald K. Lyon. To this union three children were born: Darrin, Sarah and Amanda.
Melanie was a lifetime homemaker and wonderful housewife and mother. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at Ryker’s Ridge Elementary School. She helped with student organizations and was a member of the PTA, when her kids were in school.
She loved to be with family, taking many family vacations through the years. Melanie loved reading, going to Bingo nights and taking care of her dogs.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, Donald of Madison, IN and their children: Darrin K. (Jana) of Plymouth, IN, Sarah B. Lyon of San Francisco, CA and Amanda Clegg Lyon of New York City, NY, as well as, her grandchildren: Luke H., Elijah W. and Michael K. Her siblings are: LaDonna (John) Rue of Franklin, IN, David Canfield of Madison, IN and Nancy Crozier of FL. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Melanie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: John A. Canfield, Barbara A. Shipley, Gerald A “Jerry” Canfield, Betty J. Hockensmith and Ronnie Canfield.
Family services will be held at a later date in Madison, Indiana.
