Norma L. Nitz, 76, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. The daughter of Russell Heminger and Flossie Coonfare, Norma was born on September 20, 1948 in Plymouth.
Norma graduated from Plymouth High School in 1967. She would go on to work in various assembly positions with McCords and Indiana Heat. She married Lowell G. Sickman on May 2, 1980; he would precede her in death on October 28, 2000. She later met Ted Nitz, whom she married on March 26, 2011 at the Bremen United Methodist Church where they still faithfully attend.
In her free time, she loved being outdoors and traveling. Some of her favorite trips include a Mediterranean Cruise that went to Italy, Greece, and Turkey; along with trips to Florida, Alaska, and the upper peninsula in Michigan. Wherever she visited, Norma loved playing a round of golf with her friends or casting a line in the local lake. She looked forward to playing at Swan Lake Golf Course with Ted and visiting during the ladies league at Woodbury Golf Course each week. She was a perfectionist at heart that wanted to be the best at whatever she was doing. Norma was outgoing and adventurous; she was a woman that was not afraid to try something once.
One of Norma’s most treasured things was her family. She lovingly raised her children, Jay and Rhonda, and relished being a grandmother. Norma enjoyed collecting carousel horses that she gifted to her family throughout the years. Family was always at the center of what was most important to Norma and she instilled lifelong traits such as never giving up in those she loved.
Norma is survived by her husband, Ted; children, Gerald “Jay” (Tonya) Sickman and Rhonda Wilcox; grandchildren, Courtney, Paig, Anthony, and Carmen and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Heminger; along with many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Flossie; late husband, Lowell; brothers, Arthur and Danny; and infant sister, Wanda.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 4-6PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral services will immediately follow at 6PM with Pastor Chuck Krieg officiating.
