Peter “Pete” John Roberts

June 18, 1915 — November 4, 2005

Peter “Pete” John Roberts, 90, an American citizen since 1931, coming from North Wales, Great Britain, and living in Plymouth for a number of years, died at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2005, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.

Pete was born on June 18, 1915, in Blaneau Ffestiniog, North Wales, Great Britian. He was the son of Robert John and Mary Jane Jones Roberts.

He graduated from Oak Park, Illinois High School in 1933 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945.

In Chicago, on April 6, 1946, Pete and Elnora B. Hancock were married.

For 28 years, from 1948 to 1976, Pete as a part of the Civil Service, worked in the United States Postal Service in Oak Park, Illinois.

He then worked for the Prudential Life Insurance Company.

A man with a great sense of humor, his family was of the utmost importance to him. He enjoyed relations with friends and families on both sides of the Atlantic.

He was a member, and former deacon, of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth.

Pete is survived by Elnora, his devoted wife of fifty-nine years and by a son and loving daughter-in-law, the Rev. Dr. R.J. and Karen Roberts of Windsor, Ontario.

Four grandchildren and their spouses and three great-grandchildren also survive Pete’s death. The grandchildren are: Chad, Jeremy, Tammy, Robert Earl, and the great-grandchildren are: Stephanie, Tyler, Trevor.

Several nieces and nephews survive as well.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, David and a sister, Margaret Williams.

Friends will be welcomed by his family to celebrate the long and caring life of Peter John Roberts from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.

Funeral services in the First Presbyterian Church, 401 N. Walnut St., Plymouth, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2005. Dr. Ronald Liechty and the Rev. Paul Nye will officiate.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Pete’s name may be made to the Center of Hospice and Pallative Care, Plymouth, Ind.
