God called Phyllis Jean (Reed) Brown home August 3, 2025, after 97 wonderful years. Phyllis was born to Everett and Genettie (Stillson) Reed in Bremen, Indiana on September 8, 1927. She graduated from Bremen High School and married James L. Brown on June 28, 1947. Phyllis was a full-time homemaker, and they raised four children. Trudy Pijut (Al), Cindy Piechowiak (Chet), James Brown (Maryln) and Jody Brown. Phyllis and Jim traveled throughout the U.S. with their horses, traveling and camping with friends. They loved cruising and golfing together. Phyllis was instrumental in starting the Art Gallery in Bremen and spent her time making pottery, gourds and pine needle baskets. She was a lifetime member of the Bremen VFW Ladies Auxillary, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sprig O’ Mint Ladies Golf League and the Indiana and American Gourd Society.

Phyllis was an outstanding mother and wife. She was an example for all of her kids and grandkids to follow, she will be greatly missed.

Jim and Phyllis were blessed with seven grandchildren: JB (Lisa) Brown, Matt (Sarah) Gilmer Shayne (Brian) Taylor, Shanna Gilmer, Spring (Matt) McNeilly, Cassidy Strang, Max (Ashley) Kipfer; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband James L. in 2016, and her son James E. in 2021.

Private services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 605 South Center Street, Bremen, IN 46506.

Burial will take place in the Bremen Cemetery, Bremen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center Street, Bremen, IN 46506.
