Rev. James R. Pippenger

October 19, 1955 — December 10, 2008

Reverend James R. Pippenger, Pastor of Bethel Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church of Argos, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning at the age of 53. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Dorothy A.; daughter, Stefanie Pippenger; stepdaughter, Shanelle Burns; stepson, Ty (Renee) Burns, all of Argos; his mother, Phyllis J. Pippenger; sister, Barbara (Delbert) Wolff; brothers, Michael Pippenger, John D. (Corrine) Pippenger and Joseph Pippenger.

His father, John J. Pippenger, preceded him in death.

Reverend Pippenger was known throughout Marshall County for his jovial personality, devotion to the Lord and dedication to his family, church and community. Early in his ministry, Reverend Pippenger worked along-side his wife as a Youth Director and Sunday School Superintendent. Years later as a pastor, Reverend Pippenger again followed his deep desire to help local youth by counseling young people who had fallen victim to drug and alcohol abuse. He volunteered his services as a Reverend whenever he could, housing runaways and working with the local courts to intercede with families and children suffering throughout the county. Second only to his love of the Lord was Reverend Pippenger’s devotion and dedication to his family. He loved children, and he and his wife could often be found riding their young grandson around the town of Argos in a golf-cart, visiting with the local residents and offering a neighboring hand whenever needed. Reverend Pippenger was especially proud of his daughter, Stefanie, who was reared in the apostolic faith under her father and is now pursuing a ministry of her own.

Reverend Pippenger will be greatly missed by all who were blessed by his generosity, warmth and kindness. While his work will continue, there will forever be a missing piece in the hearts of all who knew him. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Psalms 23:6
