Richard K. “Dick” Reese, 81, a resident of 10B Road for the past 56 years, died at his home on Sunday evening following an illness. Dick has been a lifetime Marshall County resident.

He was born in Bremen, Indiana on June 8, 1929 the son of David and Violet (Hepler) Reese. Dick attended LaPaz High School and like many young men he enlisted in the armed forces with the desire to serve his Country. From January of 1947 until June of 1948 he served as a Tech 5 in the U. S. Army.

On July 25, 1947 he took the former Viola A. “Doddy” Kuskye as his bride in the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2005.

Dick was a carpenter most of his life and had been employed by Kent Reese Construction, Strang Construction and Carroll Zartman Construction, but was always there to help family, friends and neighbors when in need.

Some of his greatest joy came while working with his wife Doddy restoring and refinishing many antiques they offered at The Old Barn Shop. He loved relaxing times spent with family, visits over a cup of coffee, smoking his pipe, being outdoors hunting and fishing or simply riding his scooter.

Surviving are two daughters, two sons, six grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. They are: Nancy S. and Bob Holtzman of Plymouth and their children; Melanie Clark, Mary Drew, Mechelle Cascardo, Nicki Kauffman and Kelly Holtzman, daughter, Ricki J. and Joe Garrison of Plymouth and their daughter Jacki Larimore, son Tony A. Reese of Plymouth and son Richard K. Reese Jr. of South Bend.

A brother Bill Reese of Bremen, a sister Jane Ringle of Bremen, a sister Joyce Manning of Plymouth and a sister-in-law Jan Reese of Bremen also survive with numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, a grandson, Matthew Garrison and a brother Bob Reese.

Visitation for Dick will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home where services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with Rev. Charles Krieg officiating.

Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
