Richard Lee Smith, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on May 18, 2026. Born in Tyner on January 2, 1940, Rick was the son of Fred and Eva (Bowers) Smith.
After graduating from high school, Rick worked as a barber. He then worked various side jobs including working construction, over the road hauling, and asphalt delivery. He then dedicated 25 years as an over the road truck driver for UPS before his retirement in 2005.
In his free time, Rick’s favorite pastime was being on the boat casting his reel. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors; especially on his favorite golf course. Rick always stayed busy, tinkering around his home inventing new things.
Those who knew Rick will remember him for being a gifted conversationalist. He could carry on a conversation with anyone and loved to tell jokes.
Rick is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Daniel) Demien and Lynnette Weigand; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Samantha along with her son Ryder. step-daughters, Tracy Clarke, Susan Barrier, and Janet Sambo; step-grandchildren, Alaina, Natalie, George, Matt, Christopher, Savannah, Abigail, and Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eva; 1st wife, Barbara Ann Smith; 2nd wife, Joann Smith; step-daughter, Kathryn Coyer; step-granddaughters, Sarah Coyer and Paula Guzzo; along with his siblings, Earl, Virginia, Violet, Beatrice, and John.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563 with Pastor Chuck Krieg officiating. Rick will be laid to rest at Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth.
