Rick Alan Megonnell

December 11, 1957 - January 4, 2007

Rick Alan Megonnell, born December 11, 1957, left this earth on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 5:25 p.m. and now is in the loving arms of God. Rick fought his cancer with bravery and strength and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He leaves behind his loving wife Carmen, who cared for him until the day God called him home. He also leaves behind his oldest daughter Mandy, (Aaron) Monegan. Both Mandy and Aaron served in the U.S Army and did tours of duty in Iraq, his step son, Jeremy (Mindy) and children, his daughter Jessie (Justin) Rospopo, and his son Rick Jr., who devoted the last several months to help care for his father; he is truly his father’s son. Rick is the beloved son of Ralph and Gloria Megonnell. A dear brother to Greg Megonnell, Paul (Cathy) Whaylon and Tammy (Greg) Moore. Rick was a loving Grandfather to 4 and an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Rick was an active member of ABATE for MDA when it was in its infancy and a Board Member for Pheasants Forever of Marshall County. Rick was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt with his father, brothers, and numerous friends. Rick took great pride in teaching his children and nephews the art and safety of fishing and hunting. Rick worked for Stone Container for 28 years, where he has many friends and always had great stories of his “day at the shop”. Rick was a great host and loved when family and friends gathered at his house to take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the many activities of country living. In recent months many friends and family members were able to reminisce about the “old times” with Rick. Rick never lost his wonderful sense of humor and all who love him cherished the time we were given laughing and shedding tears.
The Megonnell family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all volunteers and staff members from The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, of Plymouth, for the excellent care and love they showed to Rick. The Megonnell family is requesting that all friends contribute their time in honor of Rick and participate in Relay for Life activities in your local community.
Rick’s family will welcome his friends to share memories of his life on Sunday, January 7, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m., and after 7 a.m. on Monday, at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral Services for Rick will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Pastor John Wilson of the Calvary Temple, South Bend, where Rick was a member, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Charitable contributions in Rick’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
