Robert “Bob” C. Gross

December 23, 1937 - April 27, 2023

Robert “Bob” C. Gross, 85, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, Indiana.

Born on December 23, 1937 in Plymouth, Indiana he was the son of Charles O. and Cleo M. (Pike) Gross. He attended Plymouth High School graduating with the class of 1956, where he excelled at football and was a member of the first team ever to go undefeated.

Shortly after graduating from high school Bob married Nancy Boggs of Plymouth, Indiana.  The marriage unexpectedly ended in divorce and on December 11, 1971, he married Alice Davidson from Bourbon, Indiana.  She preceded him in death on March 12, 2015.  Shortly thereafter Bob hit the jackpot when he married Bobbie Anderson of Plymouth, Indiana, at Pretty Lake United Methodist Church on August 7, 2016.  She proved to be his most beloved, devoted companion during his final years of life.

Bob worked for The Ridge Company, aka, Ridge Auto Parts in Plymouth for over 40 years and was a dedicated store manager for many of those years. He was known as a soft-spoken kind of guy and yet keenly competitive.  His competitive nature was especially evident when it came to playing dominoes with his sister, cards with family, golf, and even when fishing in Canada with family and friends. Bob also found great enjoyment in hunting deer and waterfowl, taking care of his property in the pines, visiting national parks in the Western U.S., watching car racing, and hunting for the elusive morel mushroom.

Without a doubt Bob was also a family man who supported his children through thick and thin and stood behind them throughout many of their life endeavors.  His generous heart and dedication to others will most certainly be missed by all those who knew him best.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie of Plymouth, sister Virginia Johnston of Mishawaka, IN, children: Donald E. Gross of San Diego, CA; Gregory C. Gross of San Francisco, CA; Laurie L. Allen of Durkee, OR; Jennifer J. (Dave) Hull of Mentone, IN; Melanie (Tom) VanDyck of Ft. Wayne, IN; Andrea (Jeff) Anderson-Lightfoot of Indianapolis, IN; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, spouse Nancy Berry (Boggs), spouse Alice Gross, and daughter Melissa Patrick.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 11-1 pm at Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church, 8985 State Rd 17, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral services will immediately follow with Pastor Tami Boggs officiating.

Burial will take place in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Culver, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church; Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Pl., Mishawaka, IN 46545, or to the choice of the donor.
