Robert Wayne Ray, 86, passed away at his home on October 23, 2026. Born on September 17, 1940, in LaPorte, Indiana, Bob was the son of Albert and Alda (Smith) Ray.
After graduating from Walkerton High School in 1958, Bob married Violet J. Gaines on Christmas Eve of 1961 in Walkerton. He went on to build a dedicated career at McCord’s in Plymouth, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. In the years that followed, Bob devoted much of his time to caring for Violet until her passing in 2010.
An outdoorsman at heart, Bob found his greatest enjoyment in nature. Whether hunting, fishing, or spending time at the shooting range, he appreciated the freedom and solitude that came with being outdoors. A proud member of the National Rifle Association, he maintained a lifelong interest in firearms and shooting sports.
Bob was a private man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He especially treasured his travels out west, where the beautiful landscapes of Colorado left lasting memories. Visiting state parks and exploring the natural beauty around him were among his favorite ways to spend his time.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Reed (Seberen Caldwell) of Plymouth; daughter, Beth (Jeff) Aker of Florida and their children, Spencer Elizabeth, Leihana Grace and Natalie Jayne; daughter, Wendy (Fred) Berkeypile of Plymouth and their children, Brandi (Jeremiah) Sullivan and Boston (Lola) Berkeypile; and son, James (Karen) Ray of Argos and their son, Travis (Emily) Ray. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Dallas, Jack, Kalen, Noah, Madyson, Emery, Kaleb, Weston, and Kylan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alda; his wife, Violet; granddaughter, Shannon Yeazel; and siblings, Ronnie Ray and Janet Gaines.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m with Pastor Tim Lee officiating.
