Roger L. Umbaugh

December 24, 1945 - August 5, 2021

Roger L. Umbaugh, 75, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

He was born on December 24, 1945, in Plymouth, Indiana to Herschell and Gladys (Bailey) Umbaugh. He would graduate from Plymouth High School with the class of 1963. He would go on to attend Valparaiso University and graduated with his Bachelor’s in accounting, and then achieve his CPA.

He would serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. until his Honorable Discharge.

Roger married his college sweetheart, Carol J. Mais, in Valparaiso, Indiana in 1965.

He worked as a CPA for municipalities as a financial advisor for the state of Indiana in areas which included school projects, hospitals, and libraries. His children learned a strong sense of right or wrong in business, as Roger would never compromise.

Roger was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Plymouth and the Rotary Club of Plymouth.

He was an avid outdoorsman and big conservationist. Roger was involved in every aspect he could from maintaining property to the reintroductions of Canadian Geese and wild turkeys. He loved adventure trips and new experiences.

He was happiest running around on his tractor, but above all he was incredibly proud of his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol, and children: Susan R. (Steve) Wilson of Carmel, IN and Jeff A. (Jennifer) Umbaugh of Plymouth; grandchildren: Mackenzie, Kyle, Shad, Ryan and Rebecca; and his brother, Mike (Pam Carlberg) Umbaugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021, from 11-1 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1314 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Eric Ahlemeyer officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to Pheasants Forever, Inc., 1783 Buerkle Circle, St. Paul, MN 55110.

Farewell to my Best Friend. All too often men don’t tell each other how much they have meant to each other. The trips taken with our families, hunting trips, and the days spent with our chain saws cutting trees and splitting wood. Learning from each other’s successes and failures. I’ll treasure all of these in my heart until we meet again. Phil

Dave and I can’t imagine life without Roger. We enjoyed such fun trips from Vegas to South Africa and back. We enjoyed the trips to Barothy and many dinners at the Corn Dance. Our adventures began as neighbors out on Woodland Manor.

    To the Umbaugh family,
I wish to extend my condolences and prayers to Carol and you all. Even though I did not work in the Plymouth office with him daily I still had many opportunities over the 10 years with the firm to interact with Roger. He was a pleasure to get to know and work with. He really did make a difference to the clients and others with his work. I wish you peace and prayers.

May the Lord give you comfort and peace as you grieve. Roger is walking the streets of gold and is no longer in pain. One day we will meet again.

I have been so blessed to know Roger. Our families have gone on many adventures together. I will cherish the walks on the trails,
learning to drive the golf cart,
    and swimming in the pond.

Carol, Susan, Jeff, and family members you all are in our thoughts and prayers.
