Roland F. Carr

October 30, 1934 - January 5, 2004

Lifetime area resident Roland F. Carr, 69, died at his residence, 213 Pierce St., Plymouth, at 10:48 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2004. Roland died, following an illness, under the loving care of his family and the Starke County Hospice.
He was born on October 30, 1934, in Rochester, Ind., the son of Lester H. and Effie C. Burkett Carr. He attended Rochester schools.
Roland served his country as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.
On October 27, 1956, in Rochester, Roland and Margaret P. Moore were married. Margaret survives his death.
Roland retired in 1984, after 19 years of employment, from the Bendix Corp. in South Bend. In the 1970’s, he ran a trash route around the Lake of the Woods and he also worked as a tree trimmer for the H.W. Moore Tree Service in South Bend for 17 years.
He enjoyed hunting rabbits and squirrels and liked to fish. He was a fan of and followed professional wrestling on TV.
A member of the Christian faith, he had attended church services at the Pretty Lake United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Rochester Eagles Lodge.
In addition to Margaret, his spouse of 47 years, Roland is survived by two daughters, their spouses and two sons.
His daughters are Roberta K. and Kurt Wunder and Robin C. and Kris Morcombe, both of Plymouth.
His sons are Roy A. Carr, Bourbon, and Roland F. Carr, Jr., Bremen.
Seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Marian “Bud” Carr and Lester “Les” Carr, Jr., and a sister, Hilda M. Thomas.
Friends will be welcomed by the family on Thursday, January 8, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.
Funeral services, conducted by the Revs. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem Methodist Church, Bremen, and Deb Peterson, pastor of the Union Church of the Brethren, Plymouth, will be held on Friday, January 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Military graveside services will be provided by the Plymouth VFW, #1162, at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Roland’s memory may be made to the Cancer Association or the American Lung Society.
