Ronald E. Rhoads

Ronald E. Rhoads, 57, a resident of 311 Railroad Street, Argos, passed away at 3:12 a.m. Thursday morning in the South Bend Memorial Hospital. He had fought Leukemia for the past three years.

On November 10, 1957 in Plymouth, Ron was born one of 16 children to Norman D. and Maudie I. (Gaines) Rhoads. He received his education in the Plymouth Community Schools and remained a lifetime Marshall County resident.

On October 18, 1975 he took as his bride Penny S. Whaley and they were married in the Plymouth Church of the Nazarene.

He was an area crew leader with the Marshall County Highway Department a total of 38 years and then assisted his brother Dennis with Rhoads Lawn Care.

Some of Rons favorite activities included following NASCAR, hunting, fishing, camping and time outdoors. He also collected comic books and enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49ers. But what Ron loved and they knew it was his family, the whole family including countless nieces, nephews, cousins and of course friends. But his greatest joy was time spent with his wife Penny, daughters; April Dawn (Elmer) Mencias and grandchildren Cassie Torres and Blake Mencias of Plymouth and Crystal Lynn Rhoads and grandson Salvador of Argos.

His surviving siblings include; Neppi Harman of Ocala, FL, George (Peggy) Rhoads of Wabash, IN, Marilyn J. Moreno of Plymouth, Linda Williams of Monterey, IN, Norman (Barb) Rhoads of Plymouth, Dennis (Rose) Rhoads of Plymouth, Darwin Rhoads of Plymouth, Rick (Angie) Rhoads of Plymouth and Martha (Jack) Guerra of South Bend.

He was preceded by his parents, and siblings: Donreatha Rhoads, Lena Rhoads, Billy Joe Rhoads, Dickie Rhoads, Charlie Rhoads and Armand Rhoads.

Family and friends will gather at the Shiloh Wesleyan Church 10532 4B Road at the corner of King Road north of Plymouth. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. this Saturday, November 7th where services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard VanVuren officiating. A dinner will follow at the fellowship hall.
