Ruby J. Anthony

Jan 31, 1936 — Aug 23, 2026

Plymouth

Ruby J. Anthony, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on August 23, 2026 surrounded by her family. Born in Stevenson, AL on January 3, 1936, Ruby was the daughter of Joseph and Flora (Gray) Broyles.

Family was the cornerstone of Ruby’s life. She cherished her role as a mother and her heart grew even more as her children’s families grew; eagerly welcoming the treasured title of Nana. Ruby taught her family the importance of simply being together, creating traditions and memories that will remain with them for generations.

The holidays were especially meaningful to Ruby, and the kitchen was often where she showed her love best. Her famous banana pudding, macaroni and cheese, and homemade gravy became much more than favorite dishes, they became part of the memories made around her table. The recipes, traditions, and the love behind them will continue to have a place at family gatherings for years to come.

Ruby loved her family and those she cared for passionately and fiercely. Selfless by nature, she was always thinking of others and putting their needs before her own.

At the center of Ruby’s life was her unwavering faith in God. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and her faith guided the way she lived, loved, and cared for her family. Ruby attended Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Rensselaer, and the faith she carried throughout her life now offers comfort to those mourning her absence. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, “To be absent from the body” is “to be present with the Lord.”

Ruby will be sorely missed by her children, Kathy Messer, Joseph Anthony, Peggy Prater, and Paul Anthony; grandchildren, Misty (Paul) Parker, Elizabeth (Jaime) Fonseca, Samantha Anthony, Timothy Prater, Thomas (Kristen) Prater, and Tabitha Prater; great-grandchildren, Hannah (Keeten), Emily, Logan, Olivia, Aiden, Braylon, Avara, Hailey, Cheyenne, Jazmine, Jayden, and Jaxen; and her great-great grandchild, Westyn. She is also survived by her siblings, John Broyles and Lillie Murphy along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Flora; husband, Paul Anthony; and her infant daughter, Adrian; son-in-law, Paul Darryl Messer; brother, Walter (Barbara) Broyles; and in-laws, Carolyn Broyles and Chuck Murphy.

Visitation will be held from 11-12PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, 1300 Chester Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral services will be held at 12PM at the chapel and Ruby will be laid to rest immediately following.
