Ruth Eileen Braselton Hill

July 6, 1926 — April 12, 2018

Ruth “Eileen” Hill, age 91 years, passed away on April 12, 2018, at Presence Our Lady of Victory long-term care facility in Bourbonnais, Kankakee County, Illinois. Eileen was born on July 6, 1926 to Benjamin H. and Alice Fae (McCormick) Braselton of Riverdale, Illinois. Eileen married George Hill on April 2, 1949 at the Church of the Nazarene in Harvey, Illinois. The newlyweds lived with Eileen’s widowed mother, Alice Braselton, for six years until they built their own home at 3737 West 162nd Place, Markham, Illinois. Four children were born to this union: Dale Allen Hill, Barbara Ann (Hill) Shidler, Susan Lynn (Hill) Allen, and Donald Ray Hill. In 1993, George and Eileen moved to Plymouth, Indiana and lived at 620 W. Berkley Street. They were active members of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church. After Eileen’s husband, George Hill, and their daughter, Sue Allen, both died in 2011, worsening dementia necessitated a move to Manteno, Illinois in 2012, where her son, Dale Hill, was living. Dale lovingly cared for his mother as her Alzheimer’s disease progressed.

Eileen was a loving mother and grandmother. She taught 3rd and 4th grades in the County Club Hills school in Illinois for 20 years. Eileen served in the nursery of the Nazarene churches in Harvey and Lansing, Illinois, for 30 years. She will be remembered for her quick wit and feisty comebacks to anyone who tried to get her to do something she didn’t want to do!

Surviving are her children: son, Dale Allen Hill (Teddie Lynn Anderson), of Manteno, Illinois; daughter, Barbara Ann (Hill) Shidler of Plymouth, Indiana; son-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Allen (Denise Bourque), of Plymouth, Indiana; son, Donald Ray Hill (Victoria Szombathy), of Valparaiso, Indiana. Grandchildren: Amy Jo (Hill) VanSwol(Timothy VanSwol) of Manteno, Illinois, and J. Scott Hill (Kara Hobbs) of Burien, Washington; Benjamin Shidler (Giacinta Fedele) of Villa Park, Illinois, Bethany (Shidler) Elekani, of Plymouth, Indiana, and Brittany (Shidler) Cantrell (Kevin Cantrell) of St. Anne, Illinois; Nicholas Allen (Anna Markuson-Overman), of Plymouth, Indiana, Rachael (Allen) DeMarse (Christopher DeMarse), of Seattle, Washington, and Jeffrey Allen (Allison “Alleigh” Whitaker), of Rochester, Indiana; Andrew Hill and Sarah Hill, of Valparaiso, Indiana. Great-grandchildren: Preston and Caden VanSwol, Esmae and Enzo Hill; Tristan Shidler; Joel and Kyle Elekani; Lucas Willis (Step), Zoey and Lydia Allen; Thatcher and Sawyer DeMarse. One brother, Donald William Gordon Braselton (Millie Stray), of Wheaton, Illinois. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who were always precious to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George L. Hill (2011), daughter, Susan Lynn Allen (2011), brother, Verlon Wesley Braselton (1984) and sister-in-laws, Shirley (Budwash) Braselton (1956) and Betty (Johnson) Braselton (1998).
