Ruth Spaid Woolley

Ruth Spaid Woolley, 97, died of natural causes at 3:35 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2004 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.

Ruth, the daughter of Bruce and Nanah Howell Miller, was born in Burlington Iowa, on June 19, 1906. Ruth has been a Walkerton – Plymouth area resident since 1918, coming from Wyoming, where she had lived since 1910. She had attended Dare School in Walkerton.

On Oct. 19, 1926, in South bend, Ruth married Alva Spaid. Alva preceded her in death in 1952. Ruth then married Arthur Woolley, in Plymouth, in 1956. Arthur preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1979.

After Ruth raised her family, she worked in the office of Price Nurseries for 20 years, retiring in 1968.

She was a member of the Helpful Hour Club and the American War Mothers, and had attended Shiloh Wesleyan Church.

Ruth is survived by three daughters and four sons: Donna (Joe) Paone of Sebring, Florida, Nona (John) Kuhn of Sebring, Florida, Connie (Joe) Castro of Plymouth, Earl (Chris) Spaid of Elkhart, Russell (Eva) Spaid of Plymouth, Louis (Kris) Spaid of Wheatland, Wyoming, David (Kris) Spaid of Linden, Tenn., a daughter-in-law: Violet Spaid of Plymouth, four step-daughters and four step-sons: Helen Swanson of Rochester, Deloris Rowlands and Alma Watkins, both of Lafayette, Erma Weiger of Culver, Willard Woolley of Naples, Florida, Donald Woolley of Tepe, Arizona, Kenneth Woolley and Delbert Woolley, both of California.

Twenty-six grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren, and two sisters: Florence Shelton and Lila Kangas, both of Wheatland Wyoming, also survive.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son: Richard Spaid, a daughter: Linda Carmen Spaid, three sisters: Tessie Griffin, Ruby Wolff, and Bessie Bateman, two brothers: Clarence Miller and Jack Miller, two step-daughters: Hazel Woolley and Thelma Thomas, and two step-sons: Robert Woolley and Walter Woolley.

Visitation with the family to celebrate Ruth’s life will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 , in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 11:00 a.m.. Rev. John Perkinson, pastor of the Shiloh Wesleyan Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Center-Polk Cemetery, LaPaz, Indiana.
