Savannah B. White

Savannah B. White, 84, 16290 Pretty Lake Road, Plymouth, died, following an extended illness, at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 1996, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Born on May 19, 1912, in Tipton County, Ind., Savannah was the daughter of Charles and Nancy McCart Barkley. She graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1930 and attended the Purdue Certified Seed Analysis School. She had lived in Plymouth since 1931.
On October 20, 1935, in Plymouth, Savannah became the bride of John C. White.
Prior to her marriage she worked for the Syler Elevator in Plymouth as a bookkeeper and a certified seed analyst.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving as a deacon, elder, treasurer and president of the United Presbyterian Women.
She was active and a strong positive influence in the Democratic party for over 20 years. She was chosen as County and District Vice-Chairperson and also served on a number of state Democrat committees.
Savannah is survived by her husband of 61 years and by their children: two daughters and a son and their families.
The daughters are: Beverley J. and Richard Turner of Crawfordsville, Ind. and Judy B. Albert of South Bend, Ind.
The son is John B. and Nola White of Lima, Ohio.
Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive together with a sister, Bea Chaney of Goshen, Ind.
Savannah was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Patricia Ann Turner and five brothers.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 21, 1996, in the First Presbyterian Church, 401 N. Walnut St., Plymouth. The Rev. Robert Martin, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Memorial gifts in Savannah’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
