Shirley A. Casbon, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. Joseph Regional Hospital, Plymouth.
Born on December 23, 1930, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she was the daughter of Elvin L. and Agnes D. Rust (Heathersen). She attended West Township High School graduating with the class of 1949. While working for the bank, Shirley met James and they were married on May 10, 1953, in Donaldson, IN. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1994.
Shirley worked for First Source Bank as a loan officer for 30 years before retiring in 1993. A very socially active lady that met her friends at the Coffee Lodge almost daily. She was an avid reader, and her children would adequately describe her as smart and witty. A die-hard cubs fan that would never miss a game, even to the point of going to Arizona to catch spring training.
She was artistic and enjoyed painting various things. For years she belonged to Heartland Artist Gallery, the homemaker’s club called modern maids, and the 500 Club card group that met once a month. Shirley served as the Trinity United Methodist Church secretary for many years.
She is survived by her children: Carol (David) Fehrer of Plymouth; Mark (Staci) Casbon of Plymouth; Patricia (Craig) Browning of Culver; Judith Casbon of California; 7-grandchildren, 10-great-grandchldren.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband James, brothers: Edward Rust, James Cavinder, Elvin Rust Jr., Robert Rust and sister Doris Thimlar.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 11-12 pm at the New Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, 1300 Chester Street, Plymouth. A memorial service will immediately follow with Life Celebrant James Smart Officiating.
