Shirley M. Fasel

Shirley M. Fasel, 80, died at her residence at 6:41 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. She had been a resident of the Plymouth area for over twenty years, coming from Merrillville, Indiana.

Born on October 19, 1927, in Heidleburg, Pennsylvania, Shirley was the daughter of William C. and Margaret C. Bruckheimer Heibert. She graduated from East Gary Edison High School in 1944 as the valedictorian of her class.

Shirley and George R. Fasel were married on August 2, 1947, in Gary, Indiana.

Always wanting to keep busy, Shirley enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, canning her vegetables, knitting, crocheting, doing many other crafts and playing Bunko.

Shirley worked for several years as the lunchroom cashier at Pierce Jr. High School in Merrillville, retiring in 1984.

A 62 year member of Hobart Chapter #314 Order of the Eastern Star, Hobart, Indiana, she also was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, where she had sang in the choir for many years.

Shirley is survived by George, her husband of 60 years, two daughters: Diane Fasel and her husband Bill Stockton of Fresno, California and Debbie Bercik of Plymouth, one son: David and his wife Michelle Fasel of Hanna, Indiana, four grandchildren and a sister: Virginia Strbac of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Bernard Heibert.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
