Sr. Andre Klein, P.H.J.C.

Sister Andre Klein, Poor Handmaid of Jesus Christ, died in the Catherine Kasper Home on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at 4:51 a.m. She was 86 years old.
Sister Andre was born on September 8, 1920, in Mishawaka, Indiana, the daughter of Andrew and Margaretha Bueche Klein.
She entered the convent on June 25, 1940, and professed her first vows on June 25, 1942.
Her ministry in life was to be a teacher.
Her first teaching assignment was at Saint Henry in Chicago. She later taught at St. Mary’s in East Chicago, St. John’s in Quincy, Illinois, St. Augustine’s in Beckemeyer, Illinois and St. Mark’s in Gary.
She later served at St. Mary’s Mercy Hospital, Gary, Indiana, followed by duties at St. Elizabeth’s, Chicago, Illinois, St. Joseph’s, Mishawaka, Indiana, and Loretto, New Ulm, Minnesota, hospitals. From 1978 to 1988, she was a medical records technician at St. Mary’s Medical Center, retiring in 1990, at the Catherine Kasper Home.
Sister Andre is survived by her sister, Helen Evans, Mishawaka, Indiana, and by several nieces and nephews.
Friends celebrated the life of Sister Andre from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the Catherine Kasper Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Kasper Chapel of the home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. The Rev. Father Edward Konerman, S.S. will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Donaldson, Indiana.
