Susan C. (Scarberry) Massey

Susan “Susie” Carol Scarberry Massey, 1300 Fountain Ave., Evansville, Ind., died unexpectedly at 6:04 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2002, due to an aortic aneurysm. Susie, a former Plymouth resident, died in Deaconess Hospital, Evansville. She was 33 years old. Susie was born in Plymouth on July 11, 1968. She was the daughter of M. Dale and Patricia A. Chambers Scarberry. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1986 and then attended the University of Evansville, majoring in music and communication. On May 28, 1989, in Evansville, Ind., Susie and John P. Massey were married. A homemaker and mother she was a delight to her family and friends. Active in the arts, speech, plays and creative writing, she loved music and had a voice everyone loved to hear. Knowledgeable on the computer, she enjoyed setting up web pages and talking on line. In Plymouth, as a young girl, she was active in the Rainbow Girls and was a member of the First United Church of Christ. Susie is survived by her devoted husband and loving son, Dominic Leigh, a 7th grader, who was the light of her life. Also surviving are her parents, four brothers and three sisters. The brothers are: Daniel and Sandy Scarberry, Henderson, Nev.; Geoff and Cheryl Scarberry and Rob Scarberry, all of Plymouth, and Tim and Michelle Scarberry of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Her sisters are: Dee-Ann and Mike Schroeder, Di-Ann and Glen Houin and Amy and Lawrence Harner, all of Plymouth. Numerous nieces and nephews survive as well. She is also survived by her father-in-law, John Massey, Poseyville, Ind. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, on Sunday, June 16, 2002, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home on Monday, June 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Drs. David Moffett-Moore and Ronald Liechty, pastor and former pastor of the First United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorial gifts in Susie’s memory may be given to the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
