Vearl R. Culp Sr. 83, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at home.
Born on September 21, 1937 in Lakeville, Indiana he was son of Anthony and Dorothy (Goon) Culp. He attended North Liberty High School graduating with the class of 1955.
On April 8, 1958 Vearl enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard serving with the 293rd Infantry. One evening as Vearl was playing in a country western band in Bremen he met the love of his life Wanda Prater, they would unite in marriage on April 9, 1972 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Plymouth.
Vearl attended engineering school while working for Nipsco and would retire with them after 38 years. He would continue to stay busy working after his initial retirement with his family owned and operated business, Culp and Sons Electric Company and being a delivery driver for Enterprise.
He was known always as a cool, calm and collective soul, never getting hot underneath the collar at anything. He was known as the “peace maker.” His teenage grandchildren would love spending the night and playing cards with their grandfather instead of doing the typical teenage things. Vearl loved watching t.v. especially when it came to basketball. Playing cards either on the computer or at the table to beat his family. He also loved reading and studying the Bible.
He is survived by his wife Wanda of Plymouth; children: Carl (Bobbie) Culp of Ft. Wayne; Duane (Jacquelynn) Culp of Plymouth; Heather (Michael) Drang of Ora, IN; Vearl (Jennifer) Culp Jr. of Culver; nephew Don (Marie) VanOsdol of FL; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Vearl is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Frieda.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 11-1 pm at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Doug Dietery.
Burial will follow in the Fair Cemetery, Lakeville.
Memorial contributions can be donated to the Plymouth Baptist Church, 11345 9A Rd, Plymouth, IN 46563.
