Venus Lindsey

October 11, 1916 — November 3, 2006

Venus J. Lindsey of 335 W. Church St., Argos, Indiana, died of natural causes in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2006.

Venus was ninety-years-old.

Born in Bremen, Indiana, on October 11, 1916, she was the daughter of Albert and Fairy Yenna Rhoade.

She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1935.

On December 8, 1935, in the parsonage of the Rev. Sickafoose in Plymouth, Indiana, Venus and Leslie “Les”G. Lindsey were married. Her loving husband of 64 years died on March 24, 2000.

Venus worked at Merriman’s Grocery for many years and also in Buchtel’s Hardware store.

A housewife, she loved to bake delicious pies for her friends and neighbors.

She loved gardening, especially raising beautiful flowers. She enjoyed traveling out West and visiting Mackinaw Island, Michigan. Venus had great times on the pontoon boat on Lake Maxinkuckee and loved to work crossword puzzles.

She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her two daughters and a son. Her daughters are Doris and her husband, Gerald Shoemaker and Sandra Lindsey of Argos.

Her son is Dr. Robert Lindsey, DVM, of Plymouth.

Five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Venus was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and three sisters. A daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Lindsey also died in July of 1998.

Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Venus Lindsey with her family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 5 , 2006, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Friends may also call after 7 a.m. on Monday until the time of the services Monday morning at 10 a.m.

Funeral services for Venus will be on Monday, November 6, 2006, at 10 a.m. will be held in the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Mace, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Argos, will officiate.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorials in Venus’ memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
