Vernice B. Spaid

Vernice B. Spaid, 81, a lifetime resident of Marshall County, 805 Baker St., Lot 94, Plymouth, formerly of Lake Ave., has died.

Vernice died, after an extended illness, at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, in the Mayflower Care Center, Plymouth.

A 1936 graduate of West High School, Vernice was born in Argos, Ind., on July 29, 1918.  She was the daughter of Orville and Mary Winrotte Morris.

On December 31, 1945, in Plymouth, she was married to Dallas S. Spaid.  Dallas died on January 2, 1986.

For many years, in addition to being a homemaker for her family, Vernice tended to other children with her work on the cafeteria staff of the old Webster School.

Growing up on Mill Pond fostered a love of fishing that she carried with her all her life.  She enjoyed traveling and was proficient in crocheting.

Vernice was a thirty-year member of the First United Church of Christ and its’ Ladies Guild.  She was a volunteer worker for the Marshall County Historical Society and was a member of the Plymouth Women of the Moose 1355.

She is survived by two sons : Larry A. Spaid, Philadelphia, Penn., and Michael W. Spaid and his companion, Shari Cruse, of Culver, Ind.  Two grandchildren, Rafeal and Petra Spaid, both of Philadelphia, survive as well.

Annabelle Becker, a sister of Ft. Wayne and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Vernice was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, a brother, LeRoy Morris and a sister, Wilma Pierce.

Calling at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, will be on Friday, March 17, 2000, from 5 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the services on Saturday.

The Women of the Moose, will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. on Friday evening.

Rev. Dr. David Moffett-Moore, pastor of the First United Church of Christ, will officiate at Vernice’s funeral service in the funeral home on Saturday, March 18, 2000, at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
