
Vernon E. “Gene” Stayton, 52, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 1, 1969 in Plymouth, Indiana he was the son of David L. and Norma A. (Hall) Stayton. He attended Plymouth High School graduating with the class of 1987. Vernon received an Associate’s Degree in business at Ancilla College, graduating in 1989.
He was a manager of Shoe World through the 1990’s until they closed the store in 1998. Vernon then went to work for Indiana Heat as a foreman until it closed in 2018. Gene loved to go antique and yard sale shopping looking for any great deal that he could find on classic furniture. He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. Vernon had two dogs that absolutely adored him, a jack Russell terrier “Toonchie” and a jackabee that was a jack Russell and beagle mix named “Pee-Wee Hawkins.”
He is survived by his mother Norma Stayton of Plymouth; brother John (Tami) Stayton of Plymouth; sister Sylvia Jo (Kenneth) Hundt of Plymouth; nephew David Stayton III of Plymouth; nieces: Danielle Stayton of Argos; Kristen (Tim) Bules of Plymouth; Jen Hundt of Plymouth; best friend Karen Krause of Plymouth.
Vernon is preceded in death by his father David, sister Karen, Brother David Jr. and nephew nick.
Per the wishes of the family there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
