Virgil J. Spindler

Virgil J. Spindler, 2000 Westgate, died at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2004. Virgil, 82, died of natural causes in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. Born in Bourbon, Ind., on March 23, 1922, Virgil was the son of Virgil Franklin and Nellie Scott Spindler. He attended Bourbon High School.

During World War II, in 1941, Virgil, in the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years, served on Guam and in the Philippine Islands.

On September 14, 1946, in Rochester, Ind., Virgil and Clarice M. Eshelman were married. Clarice survives his death.

An Indiana Motor Bus driver for 27 years, Virgil retired in 1983.

Virgil was a Chicago Cub fan. He enjoyed working with his hands and planted a small and fruitful vegetable garden in the spring.

He was a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge #741 and attended services at Sunrise Chapel, Plymouth.

In addition to Clarice, his wife of 57 years, Virgil is survived by four daughters and a son.

They are: Sheila and John Rinkenberg and Melinda Kletka, all of Plymouth; Nancy and Tom Huffman, Rochester and Doreen Spindler, Indianapolis. His son, Tom and Cheri Spindler, are also of Plymouth.

Seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren survive as well.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Spindler, a son, and Joleen Spindler, a granddaughter.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside funeral services will take place in New Oakhill Cemetery on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Rustin Krapfl, pastor of the Sunrise Chapel, will officiate.

Military graveside services will be accorded to Virgil by the VFW Post 1162 of Plymouth.

The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that memorial gifts in Virgil’s memory be made to the Marshall County Hospice.
