Virginia Alene Johnston, 93, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025 at the Center for Hospice Care Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka. Born February 16, 1932 in Plymouth, Virginia was the daughter of Charles and Cleo (Pike) Gross.
Virginia married James E. Johnston on August 17, 1952 at the Church of Christ in Plymouth. While she worked as a bookkeeper through the years, Virginia’s most cherished role was being a mother. During their 60 years of marriage, they created a beautiful life together raising their children, Dora, Shelley, and Kevin. James preceded her in death on March 15, 2012.
In her free time, Virginia enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and tending to her flower garden. While she was one of the sweetest ladies, she was serious when it came to playing games like Dominos, Euchre, or Spoons. Virginia made countless memories through the years traveling to destinations in Hawaii, Arizona, and other locations out west.
Family time will always be one of Virginia’s precious memories; whether it be gathering at the table for a family meal or getting everyone together for holidays in the basement at their Bremen home.
A woman of strong faith, Virginia attended the Church of Christ. Through the years, she was involved with the women’s groups at the church.
Viriginia is survived by her children, Dora (George) Fletcher, Shelley Cox, and Kevin (Gayle Ann) Johnston; grandchildren, Michelle Asmus, Matthew Fletcher, Ryne Johnston, and Ashley Johnston; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brady, Dane, and Vaughn. She will also be missed by her neighbor and friend, Frances Horvath.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Cleo; her beloved husband, James; brother, Robert Gross; and life partner of her daughter Shelley, Mel Berry.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 12-1PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 1PM.
