William L. Harrell

January 30, 1921 — August 26, 2000

William L. “Bill” Harrell, 79, a lifetime Argos farmer and former resident of 15936 Lilac Rd., Argos, died of natural causes at 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2000,  in the Plymouth Mayflower Care Center.  He had been a resident of River Park, 805 Baker Street, Plymouth since May 1999.

Bill was born on January 30, 1921 in Argos, Ind., the son of Jesse O. and Angeline C. Leffert Harrell.  He attended Argos schools.

On May 30, 1942, Bill and Betty Jean Kelver were married in Walkerton.

Bill was a “custom” farmer.  For a period of 24 years, he would do for other farmers whatever was needed…from planting to picking.  He dairy farmed and transported milk to the Plymouth Dairy for area farmers.  He had also served as a Plymouth Auxiliary police officer and drove school bus for 11 years for the Argos Community school district.

He was a loyal owner of John Deere tractors.  As a 4-H leader, he was involved in tractor maintenance.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty, his wife of 58 years, two sons and four daughters.  His sons are William E. and Rose Harrell, Argos, and Paul L. and Carrie Harrell, Plymouth.  His daughters are Barbara J. and John Pittman, Plymouth, Catherine L. and Larry Zimmer, Jacksonville, Ill., Susan K. Miller and her husband, Jim Souza, Eagle River, Alaska and Darlene L. and Jim Zimmer, Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, two brothers, Frank B. and Edward Harrell and Catherine Harrell, a sister.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, August 29, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the JOHNSON-DANIELSON FUNERAL HOME, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Lowell Ott, pastor of the First Assembly of God, Walkerton, will be on Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
