William L. Hoppe

DUE TO THE WEATHER FAMILY SERVICES WERE HELD ON MONDAY AFTERNOON, William L. “Bill” Hoppe, 81, passed away at 5:16 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at his daughter Susan’s, residence.

The son of William Henry and Lucille Rose (Emerson) Hoppe, Bill was born on May 6, 1932 in Whiting, Indiana. He was a 1950 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond, Indiana.

A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Bill served his country from 1952 to 1956.

Bill worked as an independent trucker for 30 years, retiring in 2005.

He was a member of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27, Veterans of Foreign Wars – Marshall County Post 1162 and the Plymouth Moose Lodge. He also played in the band “Aristocrats” for many years.

Always a snappy dresser, Bill was a stickler for proper grammar and good manners. He was the consummate gentleman.

Bill is survived by two daughters: Anita G. (Larry) Boetsma of Mesa, Arizona and Susan K. (Jim) Irwin of Plymouth; two sons: William T. Hoppe of South Bend and Brian S. (JoEtta) Hoppe of Bedford; five grandsons: Daniel E. Sheehan, Andrew D. Sheehan, David E. (Stephanie) Hoppe, Zachary T. Hoppe, and Jonathan C. Hoppe: a great granddaughter Adelyn Grace Hoppe; and a sister, Darlene (Herb) Seberger, of Valparaiso.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be welcomed at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014 and at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the services. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Robin Smith, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 425 S. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Military honors will be accorded him by members of the D.A.V., Plymouth American Legion Post 27 and Veterans of Foreign Wars – Marshall County Post 1162. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
