Winifred I. Smith, 84, passed away at the Mary B. Home in Lakeville on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.

Winifred was born on August 23, 1936, in Teegarden, Indiana to Floyd and Mary (Buss) Gardner. She graduated from Tyner High School.

On December 10, 1955, in North Liberty, Indiana, Winifred married John R. Smith in the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. The two would raise their daughter and three boys in LaPaz.

She worked for LaVille High School as a custodian for 24 years before her retirement in 1997.

Winifred enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, and cooking. She committed her life to Jesus Christ at Community Gospel Church in Bremen. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann Griffey of LaPaz and sons: Timothy Smith of Trenton, MO, Tracy (Jackie) Smith of Plymouth, and Terry Smith of Pheonix, AZ; grandchildren: Jessica George, Josh George, Lydia Smith, Jeremiah Smith, Stefania Smith, Jillian Smith; and great-grandchild, Janson.

Also surviving are her siblings:  Dorothy Eads, nieces and nephews.

Winifred was preceded in death by her husband, John, on February 5, 2018, and her sister, Faye Damuth and Evelyn Summerlot, Martha Sherrill, and brothers, Kenneth, Harlan, Charles “Jake”, Keith Gardner, Michael and David.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021, from 5-7 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 North Michigan Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with her son, Pastor Timothy Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at the Morris Cemetery in Walkerton.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested any memorial contributions to be directed to the Mary B. Home, 119 Lakeview Trail, Lakeville, Indiana 46536 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
